Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

The committee mentioned that one theory under investigation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has remained silent.

Personnel have been sent to the location, which is said to be in a southerly district of the capital.

Accounts indicate the explosion happened in a vehicle lot adjacent to a residential building.

Series of Incidents

Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This new event comes after other notable incidents, for instance:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a explosive placed on a scooter was detonated remotely.

While a source from Ukraine earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.

The conflict has increasingly seen shadowy operations reaching into the center of the Russian capital.

The investigation into General Sarvarov's death continues to be active.
