American Authorities Report Arrests in Thwarted Year-End Bomb Plan Close to LA

Law enforcement officials declared on Monday that they had managed to foil a elaborate plan to detonate IEDs at several sites belonging to two corporate businesses on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The operation came after the arrest of suspects part of an extremist group espousing anti-capitalist and anti-government views.

Those Arrested Apprehended During Desert Rehearsal

The four suspects were arrested last Friday in the desert region situated east of Los Angeles as they were according to officials running through their planned attack. Prosecutors presented from above reconnaissance footage to the media, which depicted the group transporting a big black device to a surface. Authorities noted that the detainments occurred prior to the group could construct a fully functional explosive device.

Identities of the Those Charged Made Public

According to the public legal filing, the four people identified are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. The group are said to be from the greater Los Angeles area.

Reported Driving Force and Group Affiliations

Even though authorities did not explicitly describe a rationale, they indicated the group are members of a faction called the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This entity allegedly calls for "the working class to rise up and combat against corporate power," according to the criminal complaint.

The charges involve conspiracy and owning a destructive device. Officials indicated that further charges are anticipated in the weeks ahead.

Details of the Supposed "Midnight Sun Operation"

Officials revealed that one of the individuals had devised a step-by-step blueprint last month to bomb multiple corporate facilities across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The locations were described as "Amazon-type" distribution hubs.

"The plan was specific," a prosecutor stated. "It contained detailed directions to build IEDs … and named several sites across Orange County and Los Angeles."

According to the probe and legal filings, the scheme entailed planting rucksacks filled with intricate IEDs that were scheduled to be set off all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five locations. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time because the document indicated "celebratory explosions will be going off at this time so explosions will be harder to be detected."

The handwritten, eight-page manually written plan, titled "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," suggested that more locations could be incorporated. The sites were described as assets and operations operated by two distinct firms connected with operations involving national and international trade.

Future Plots and Proof Uncovered

Court documents also revealed that two members in the collective had planned future attacks aimed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel and transport with explosives in 2026. One suspect allegedly noted that such strikes "would kill some and scare the rest of them."

These plans were allegedly planned both at an face-to-face assembly in Los Angeles and through an encrypted messaging app.

Pictures contained in the legal filings depict a remote camp with what authorities described as bomb-making materials laid out on plastic folding tables.

The filing states that the group "carried explosive materials to the location, such as various sizes of PVC pipes, identified as a chemical compound, fuel, charcoal powder, sulfur powder, and items to be used as fuses, along with other items."

The scheme also included steps on how to manufacture the bombs and how to avoid leaving traces that could be linked back to the individuals. The suspects had recently obtained precursor chemicals and other materials, via buys from online retailers.

Operation and Aftermath

Authorities took action last week as the suspects were practicing the operation in the desert near a California town. "They had every item they needed to make an operational IED at that place," an official stated.

During carried out raids, investigators reportedly discovered signs for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one individual's residence that demanded "Death to America", and "Eliminate ICE". At another accused's residence, police found a duplicate of the comprehensive explosives scheme.

Those arrested were detained peacefully. They were scheduled to make a court appearance in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
