The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,â stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
âUnless you count eating six or seven apples per day,â Levine Cava continued. âLet this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.â
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting âsix-sevenâ â inspired by a hip-hop line â often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named âsix-sevenâ its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThis swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,â said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt represents the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
