The President Welcomes Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Devastating Event
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the government to suspend asylum processing and cease issuing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
